There are a lot of sites about abuse on the internet. So, why would I add another to the mix?
I started this site because I believe most survivors of abuse not only need validation for their experiences, but need to identify the root cause(s) of why they let themselves get into these situations. For the longest time, I thought these jerks were coming at me out of nowhere, for no good reason, that I was a “jerk magnet”, but after some careful examination of my life, I now think I know why my life unfolded the way it did.
I also believe that the latest jerk you encountered was probably not your first. Chances are that jerk was the latest (and hopefully last) of many. It can take a while to put all of the pieces in place – it’s still a process for me, and I am sure always will be – but once the pieces start making sense, life starts to look sunny again. It is not about “blaming the victim”, but about identifying the things that have been holding you back, making a few tweaks, and doing better for yourself (and others) next time.
I believe that once you figure out why things started to go “sideways”, you can change direction and change your future experiences.
So while this site is a bit about jerks, it is far more about jerk-proofing your life and understanding that you deserve so much better. Cheers!
